Village of Jackson WiFi Usage


  1. What is required to use VOJ WiFi?

    When you are in the designated wireless coverage area outdoors, all you have to do is turn on your laptop or PDA that has a wireless network card and connect to the open access point of "VOJ TELECOM1". Start up your favorite internet browser (ex: internet explorer or firefox) and you will then be redirected to the VOJ WiFi login and sign-up pages.

    Please note that while you may be able to connect to the VOJ WiFi network indoors with a WiFi equipped laptop, however the highest level of sustained wireless network utilization will be achieved by adhering to the VOJ WiFi utilization standards as follows:

    When you are in the designated wireless coverage area indoors, a Jackson Telecom approved WiFi modem will be required to maintain the highest available signal level. The WiFi modem is a stationary device that must be placed in a room above ground (no basements) next to an exterior wall. This device may then be connected directly to your computer via an Ethernet network card or may be connected directly to a router. You can purchase a Jackson Telecom approved WiFi modem directly from us. Indoor WiFi modem installations will normally require a service call, please call 888-AIR-baud for assistance with your indoor WiFi modem installation.

  2. Is VOJ WiFi secure?

    Your login information and credit card information is secure at all times. In fact, we don't even store your credit card information after it has been processed. When you are submitting your login information or your credit card information, it is encrypted with 128-Bit encryption to keep it protected. You cannot log onto the hotspot unless you are using this secure connection.

    The wireless connection between your laptop and the VOJ WiFi hotspot is not secure though. This is not a problem for normal web browsing, but if you do any online transactions such as banking, you should make sure the site you are visiting is a secure site. This is indicated by a 'lock' icon in most browsers. We also recommend that users have a personal firewall enabled on their computer as well as virus scanning software.

  3. How do I reset or change my VOJ WiFi password?

    If you have forgotten your VOJ WiFi password or would like to change it, please call AIRbaud Technical Support at 888-AIR-baud to reset it.

  4. How do I renew my VOJ WiFi account?

    When your account needs to be renewed, the VOJ WiFi software will automatically bring you to a renewal page. The fields with your name and other information will already be filled in for you. Just select the service plan you want to use, enter your credit card information, and click the renew button. Your account will then be renewed for the amount of time granted by the service plan you choose.

  5. Will I be able to use my WiFi ready laptop inside my house?

    Please note that while you may be able to connect to the VOJ WiFi network indoors with a WiFi equipped laptop, however the highest level of sustained wireless network utilization will be achieved by using a Jackson Telecom approved WiFi modem. If you would like to use your WiFi ready laptop indoors, we recommend purchasing a wireless router along with a WiFi modem. This will then allow you to use your WiFi ready laptop indoors. Indoor installations will normally require a service call, please call 888-AIR-baud for assistance with your indoor installation.
